Whole Mung – 1 cup
Water – 3 cups
Salt – to taste
Oil – 1 tbsp
Cumin Seeds – 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida – 1/8tsp
Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
Garlic Cloves – 4 large, roughly crushed
Ginger – 1/2 tbsp, grated
Curry Leaves – few leaves
Green Chillies – 5, slit
Tomato – 1, med chopped
Cilantro – to taste
Lemon/Lime Juice – to taste
METHOD:
1. Take 1cup whole green moong dal .
2. Wash and soak Whole Green Mung beans for about 4 hours.
4. Add Mung, 3 cups Water and Salt to a pressure cooker.
5. Pressure cook for 1 whistle and switch off stove allowing pressure to go down by itself.
6 . In a medium pot, heat Oil.
7. Add Cumin Seeds and allow them to sizzle.
8. Add Asafoetida.( but i forgot to add asafoetida )
9. Now add Turmeric Powder and finely chopped Garlic .
10. Then add finely chopped Ginger.
11. Add slit green chillies.
12. Cook for 30 secs.
13. Now then add curryleaves.
14. Add Tomatoes and cook for 1 minute to soften them.
15. Mix nicely in the middle.
16 . Add cooked Moong dal.
17. Add the water that is left over while pressure cooking dal.
18. Bring to a boil and simmer for a few minutes.
19. Adjust salt and let the dal cook nicely.
20. Garnish with Coriander Leaves.
21. Let it boil nicely till it becomes little thick.
22. Squeeze some lemon juice ...............
Goes real good with hot white rice, chappati.................................................................
